Philadelphia Garden Tour 2012

Beautiful Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania is one of our favorite places. An elegant five-acre conservatory is surrounded by elegant gardens, water features and DuPont family history. It’s easy to pass an entire afternoon there and not see all there is to see.

The world-famous Winterthur Museum and Gardens is a few miles away in Wilmington, Delaware. Another DuPont estate, Winterthur features a 275-room mansion filled with furniture from all over the world, the Campbell Soup Tureen collection, and a thousand acres of gardens and grounds. Our favorite spot there is the “Enchanted Woods”, a fantasy garden built for children of all ages. Think “Fairy Garden” only bigger. Nearby on historic Route 1 is another treasure, the Brandywine River Museum with its collection of Wyeth family paintings and other contemporary art. The house and studio of illustrator N.C. Wyeth is right around the corner.

We’re making these gardens the centerpiece of a four-day trip to Philadelphia this September, and you’re invited! Join us for four days, three nights touring the finest gardens in Philadelphia, and marvelous food.

Tour the Brandywine Museum, featuring the world’s largest collection of art by the Wyeth family, sculpture by Frederick Remington, and other classic artwork. We’ll lunch at the museum café overlooking the Brandywine River, and take a side trip to the N.C Wyeth studio. Next we’ll spend an afternoon at the Winterthur Museum & Gardens in Wilmington, Delaware, a 275-room DuPont mansion full of priceless period furniture and home of the amazing Campbell Soup Tureen collection. We’ll enjoy a guided tour of the house, take a jitney tour of the gardens, walk in the Enchanted Woods, tour the Museum and special exhibits, and shop. Dinner is included at the historic Dilworthtown Inn.

On Saturday we’ll stop briefly at the Brandywine Battlefield and then spend the day at Longwood Gardens. We’ll tour the gardens and conservatories, have lunch in the Terrace Restaurant Café, view spectacular water shows at the Fountains and the Open Air Theatre, take an insider tour, see special exhibits and visit the DuPont-Pierce mansion. An elegant dinner is included this evening in Longwood’s 1906 Dining Room.

Our trip will depart from GoodSeed Farm on Thursday, September 13th, and return Sunday, September 16th. Would you like to come along? E-mail us for details, or call Croswell tours and ask about tour #G30644. This is an adventure we’re really looking forward to!
